September 23, 2020—MIT Solve today announced the appointment of Sara Monteabaro as Director, Strategic & Partner Programs at MIT Solve. In this role, Monteabaro will work with Solve community Members and partners to develop custom global open innovation Challenges and programs.

“Sara has been an integral part of the Solve team for nearly four years, and I am so delighted she will be using her skills to support Solve’s partners for custom Challenges across issue areas and geographies, to tackle world challenges,” said Alex Amouyel, Executive Director of MIT Solve. “Sara’s passion for social change and her leadership is extremely valuable to our team, to social innovators globally, and to Solve’s partners.”

Solve has powered Challenges for a diverse set of organizations, including the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) on reducing plastic waste and The World Bank on digital identity. Solve has also partnered with The Elevate Prize Foundation to find and award up to $5 million annually to global heroes that are elevating humanity, and with The Intuitive Foundation to create novel, low-cost surgical training modules for surgeons and surgical trainees in resource-constrained settings.

“Solve’s custom Challenges allow mission-driven organizations to seek and support solutions to the world’s biggest problems—while inspiring innovation and solution submissions from new and unexpected places,” Monteabaro says. “Providing Solve’s partners with the ability to source, evaluate, and support the most promising social entrepreneurs in the world is extremely motivating work that makes a real difference. I’m thrilled to collaborate even more closely with our community to grow Solve’s custom Challenge offering.”

Monteabaro most recently served as Solve’s Lead, Learning Community, where she cultivated a community of cross-sector leaders and innovators to improve learning opportunities and access to quality education around the world. Prior to joining Solve, she was the Morton L. Mandel Presidential Fellow at the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and also worked at Partnership for a Secure America as a Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellow, at the Clinton Global Initiative, and at CRCC Asia Ltd., a global recruitment consultancy firm in Beijing, China.

At the heart of Solve’s Custom Challenges is its award-winning open innovation platform. Anyone, anywhere in the world can submit a solution to open innovation challenges hosted on Solve’s platform. Solve has over 140,000 active registered platform users, who are also able to comment and vote on published solutions. Additionally, all judging is completed inside the platform, with solutions assigned to specific judges to review and evaluate. Custom Challenges can be tailored to an organization’s needs and Solve works to design the Challenge and prize features.
